Lester pitched the first complete game of his career. It was also the first MLB no-hitter of the season. It took Lester everything he had because he threw a season-high 130 pitches. It seems like he doesn’t even realize the remarkable task he just accomplished.
Lester
“It will all soak in tomorrow” he said after the game.
Lester has dealt with hard times before so this task was just one of many. The 24 year old is also a cancer survivor. Lester also got the win in the World Series clincher for the Red Sox last season.
The Red Sox provided Lester with sound defensive plays as well as 7 runs of offense.
Monday night proved to be an amazing night at Fenway especially for a 24 year old cancer survivor.
John Lester turned Fenway Park into a frenzy Monday night when he threw a no-hitter for the Boston Red Sox to defeat the Kansas City Royals 7-0.
Lester’s nine hitless innings was the first complete game of his career as well as the first MLB no-hitter of the season. It took Lester a season -high 130 pitches to complete the no-hitter but after the 130th pitch the feeling was well worth it.
“It will all soak in tomorrow” he said after the game.
This accomplishment is just one of many in the left hander’s young career.Just in this past year the 24 year old has overcome cancer as well as won a game in the World Series.
The Red Sox brought their bats with them tonight and gave Lester 7 runs of offense. They also made some big plays behind him in the field.
All around it was a wonderful night at Fenway Park especially for a 24 year-old cancer survivor.
Hurricane Ike may appear to be over but for many families the trouble is still going on. The Associated Press reports that many people are still waiting for basic things such as food, water and shelter. Firemen are actually hosing people down that aren’t able to get a bath or shower. The president has tried to convince as many people as possible to donate money to the relief program. With what these people are going through every little bit helps.
One positive is that the number of relief centers have been greatly increased. These centers provide people with the some of the basic things listed above.
The problem is the recovery process from Ike is going to take a while. Some people won’t be able to go back to living the way the were accustomed to for weeks. Ike has destroyed homes, beaches, gas stations and a number of other things. The AP reported that over 2 million people in texas have no power and over 30,000 people are living in shelters.
President Bush doesn’t want people to forget about donating money to the relief program. He doesn’t want “disaster fatigue” to have an impact on how much people donate. The death toll for Ike was 41 and this nation doesn’t need anymore people to suffer. You can see some of the effects of Ike in the video clip below.
This will be my last post of the week that doesn’t involve sports. I want to get an A in my journalism class so I better complete the assignment that asks the question is blogging journalism?
My answer to that question is of course blogging is journalism. Anybody who doesn’t think that blogging is journalism is living in the past. They aren’t tuned into the real world and seeing the advancements in technology each and everyday.
The days of journalism being just articles that you skim through occasionally in the Sunday paper are over. Today people want to read information at a much faster pace. We have things like text messaging, email and internet. I believe blogs are helpful because you can provide people with information immediately after it happens. If the Red Sox hit a home run in the bottom of the 9th 5 minutes ago I could be telling everyone the story as I write this article. If I worked for a newspaper theres a chance that the story won’t even be out until tomorrow.
Now I can’t go on here and say every single blog ever made is a form of journalism. I dont believe that at all. In one of my readings it says the author of the blog has to do with whether or not it is journalism. I disagree with that. I feel if you are providing people with information in a respectable form then you are practicing journalism. Even if it is a topic that you don’t see in the paper everyday it is journalism.
Some people are so into blogging that they actually make a career out of it. In the articles I read for class I see that some people think blogs are a form of journalism while others do not. I am one of the people that think blogs are. I think the way people write on their blog may be different from the traitional journalism. I also think down the road blogs might be just as popular as your everyday newspaper. Blogging really is journalism.
